Joel Stone's sawmill was one of the most productive and modern on the St. Lawrence River. Powered by the falls on the Gananoque River, the mill could run 15 saws at once.

Dear Sir,

Above I send you a Statement of plank which you noted to be at 7/6 per hundred feet, will you please saw them for me, so soon as convenient that they may have as much time to dry as possible, and the flooring plank to be 14 feet long if you can well do it, As it will be Just suit the Beams without waste of Stuff, should the Ice be good, probably I may take them Away this winter___ I forgot to give you Fish Sheriffs Letters, I since sent them to you by a person going down in a Boat, I hope something may be got of Sheriff, & if Fish does not pay you, please give his note to Mr. Sherwood____ I am with but respects to Mrs & Miss Stone,
