The St. Lawrence Froniter had been explored by the French since the 16th Century, but for twenty-five years after the fall of Quebec the British made no effort to settle the lands. In 1783 thousands of Loyalists migrated north and were granted lands along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes.
