United Empire Loyalist Certificate, 1807

United Empire Loyalists who resettled in Upper Canada were diligent in affirming their status and lineage. Regardless of social standing before the American Revolution, the Loyalists in Canada were granted large tracts of land for their services. To this day, many Canadians still affix the initials UE (Unity of Empire) to their names in testament of their family heritage.
